This is a nice example of a decorative handmade plate by Wimborne Pottery of Dorset, England.
The plate has a slightly raised rim that is glazed in brown. The centre of the plate is decorated with a streaky matte cream shade that is painted with a stylised donkey with fence and foliage. Some of the details have been incised using the ‘sgraffito’ method.
The reverse is glazed in brown (a continuation from the rim) and bears the original oval sticker, which reads ‘WIMBORNE POTTERY HAND PAINTED IN DORSET’.
It has a diameter across the rim of approximately 20.4cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 370g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
