This is a classic example of a posy vase produced by William Fishley Holland Sr. at The Pottery in Clevedon, Somerset.
The posy is globular in form, tapering inwards towards the base. There is a large central hole at the top, surrounded by a ring of eight smaller holes. The glaze is a mottled pale blue, with areas where the glaze is thinner and the earthenware body shows through. The incised design consists of two stylised snails decorated with pale blue, alternating with two patches of stylised grass.
The base is mostly unglazed, revealing the underlying ceramic body to be earthenware. The monogram ‘FH’ is incised in the centre, which is attributable to William Fishley Holland Sr.
It has a height of approximately 8.1cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 180g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is some crazing to the glaze.
