This is a very attractive and good quality studio pottery vase by W. H. Jennings Clark of Storrington, West Sussex.
The vase is broadly cylindrical, with a short neck and slightly everted rim. The interior is decorated with a mottled grey and brown glaze. The exterior has a grey base glaze, over which a vertical striped motif has been applied by brush in shades of dark and pale blue, and rust brown.
The base is unglazed, revealing the underlying ceramic body to be terracotta in colour. There is an impressed mark at the rim, which reads ‘CLARK’.
In addition, it bears the original white paper label, which reads ‘W. H. JENNINGS CLARK “PENHALLOW” BRACKEN LANE, STORRINGTON PULBOROUGH WEST SUSSEX RH20 3HR PHONE: STORRINGTON 2783’.
It has a height of approximately 18.0cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 6.4cm and across the base of about 9.6cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 1170g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
