This is an unusual and quirky example of a piece of mid-20th-century kitchenalia.
The piece is broadly oval and stands on four tapering legs. The rim sweeps up to form two pointed ‘ears’. There is a short cylindrical protrusion forming the snout. The facial features are handpainted in black glaze. The side of the boat is decorated with stylised leaves and on one side are the words ‘APPLE SAUCE’.
The base is marked but it is not discernible. This piece was, however, made by Geoffrey Maund Pottery.
It has a maximum height of approximately 7.3cm, with a maximum length of about 14.3cm and a maximum width of about 8.2cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 220g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
