This is a high-quality lead crystal fruit bowl from the ‘Cascade’ suite produced by Thomas Webb and dating to the first quarter of the 20th century.
The bowl is made from lead crystal and has been dip-moulded with six columns of swags that diminish in size as they approach the flat base. The latter has a central polished pontil and is unmarked.
The early Thomas Webb ‘Optical Surface Effects’ are illustrated on page 433 of the book ‘British Glass 1800 – 1914 by Charles R. Hajdamach.
The bowl has a height of approximately 8.9cm and a diameter across the rim of about 17.6cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 650g.
It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are some wear and tear scratches to the interior and underside of the base commensurate with age and use.
