This is a stunning example of a large salad or fruit bowl from the ‘Wave’ range designed by Anita Harris for Wedgwood Crystal.
The bowl is rounded with a flattened base. Half of the rim is rounded, but this then merges with the undulating zig-zag portion that represents a wave. The body of the bowl is moulded with diagonal streaks in a random pattern; the whole is made from plain flint lead crystal and has a subtle textured finish.
The bowl is unmarked.
It comes in the original black and white cardboard box, which reads ‘WAVE LARGE SALAD/FRUIT BOWL WEDGWOOD CRYSTAL’ on the front.
The bowl has a maximum height of approximately 12.0cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 26.1cm and across the base of about 14.0cm.
This bowl is the largest in the ‘Wave’ range and has the pattern number AWH50/4.
It has an unwrapped weight (including the box) of 2560g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is a large piece of frit enclosed within one of the waves at the rim. There is also a large burst bubble on the underside of the base. These are manufacturing artefacts and are to be expected from handmade glass. The box is worn around the edges, which is commensurate with age.
