This is a high-quality cut lead crystal whisky tumbler or ‘rummer’ from the ‘Beaconsfield’ suite produced by Stuart Crystal.
The tumbler is made from thick lead crystal and is approximately cylindrical in shape. It is intaglio cut below the rim with four stylised floral motifs, each being flanked by a fan of wedge cuts. Below the centre of each flower is a three-pointed fan cut. A swag of oval cuts connects adjacent motifs.
There is a pair of circumferential mitre cuts around the centre; these surmount a lattice of raised diamonds formed from seven rows of interlocking crosses.
The thickened base is star cut and marked at the edge with the word ‘STUART’.
The ‘Beaconsfield’ suite has the pattern number 17298, and this piece has the full product number 17298/041 in the Stuart Crystal catalogue. It is listed as a ‘9oz Rummer’, which is the largest of the three rummer sizes available.
It has a height of approximately 9.0cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 8.6cm and across the base of about 7.5cm.
It has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 300ml.
