This is a set of four high-quality, cut and moulded lead crystal claret wine glasses from the ‘Oxford’ suite produced by Webb Continental.
The tulip-shaped bowl is cut with five horizontal diamond-shaped panels, the lower limbs of which cross over to form a small cross. Within the diamond-shaped panel is an eight-pointed star cut with elongated horizontal limbs. Where adjacent panels meet, it is surmounted by a three-pointed fan. Below this is a small cross cut.
There is a bladed collar at the junction of the bowl and the stem, which has a central ball knop. The foot is plain and unmarked.
These glasses are featured in a Webb Continental catalogue under the product number ‘006005’ and are referred to as ‘Clarets’.
Each glass has a height of approximately 13.5cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 5.7cm and across the foot of about 6.8cm. There are some minor discrepancies in the dimensions due to the handmade nature of the glasses.
Each glass has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 180ml.
They have an unwrapped weight of 900g.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is the odd wear and tear scratch commensurate with use.
