This is a high-quality cut and moulded lead crystal white wine glass from the ‘Stratford’ suite produced by Royal Doulton.
The bowl of the glass widens out from the rim to form a capacious rounded portion, tapering in subtly to merge with the elongated, solid tapering stem. This merges with the plain, flat foot, which is marked at the edge with the words ‘ROYAL DOULTON’.
The bowl is cut with four large crosses, the upper and lower limbs of which meet to form diamond-shaped panels. Each panel contains a fine lattice of cross-cuts. Above the centre of each large cross is a five-pointed fan. Below the centre is a further small lattice formed from three overlapping cross-cuts.
The bowl bears the original silver and blue paper label, which reads ‘ROYAL DOULTON FINEST CRYSTAL MADE IN FRANCE’ followed by the pattern name ‘STRATFORD’.
The glass has a height of approximately 17.1cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 7.1cm and across the foot of about 6.6cm.
It has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 250ml.
It has an unwrapped weight of 200g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
