This is a high-quality ruby glass bud or stem vase from ‘The Ruby Gift Collection’ produced by Dartington Crystal.
The vase is elongated, with a flared rim that narrows to form a neck, widening out again above the bulbous body. It is made from ‘cranberry’ or ‘ruby’ glass, which gets its colour from the use of gold as a pigment. This is then encased in a layer of flint or ‘clear’ glass, which is more obvious at the thickened base. The latter is marked with ‘© DARTINGTON’.
In addition, the vase bears the remains of the blue and gold sticker, which reads ‘DARTINGTON CRYSTAL ENGLAND’, as well as the original Ruby Gift Collection tag.
In the original Dartington Crystal catalogue it has the pattern number LG1623/RU and is referred to as a ‘stem vase’.
It has a height of approximately 19.9cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 4.7cm and across the base of about 4.4cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 340g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although as previously mentioned the sticker is quite worn.
