This is a highly attractive example of a coffee pot from the ‘Poppy’ range by J & G Meakin.
The coffee pot is approximately cylindrical, tapering slightly towards the rim. It has a long curved pouring spout drawn out from the body and sits in line with the rim. The handle is plain and angular and is positioned centrally on the body. Between the handle and spout, on both sides, is a stylised transfer printed floral design with open and unopened poppies and ears of wheat, as well as stylised white flowers and foliage.
The base is marked in black with the words ‘J G STUDIO J & G MEAKIN ENGLAND’.
The lid is discoid with a flattened discoid knop. The edge of the lid is decorated with an olive-green stripe and a further olive-coloured disc is in the centre of the knop.
It has a maximum height (including the lid) of approximately 23.5cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 9.9cm and across the base of about 9.1cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 920g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is some minor crazing to the glaze and a couple of marks on the inside of the rim commensurate with age.
