This is a classic example of a preserve or jam pot from the ‘Twintone’ range, produced by Poole Pottery.
The body is globular in shape, tapering in towards the rim. It is glazed in a shade known as ‘Mushroom’. The lid is slightly domed with a central acorn-shaped knop. There is a spoon recess at the edge of the lid. The latter is glazed in a brown shade called ‘Sepia’. This ‘Twintone’ colour pairing has the pattern number ‘C54’.
The base of the body is marked in blue in the centre with the dolphin symbol and the words ‘POOLE ENGLAND’ surrounded by an oval. This particular mark was in use from 1959 to 1967. There is also the impressed figure ‘288’.
It has a maximum height (including the lid) of approximately 10.1cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 6.6cm and across the base of about 6.0cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 290g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
