This is a pair of high-quality cut lead crystal hiball or long drinks glasses from the ‘Lismore’ suite produced by Waterford Crystal.
The elongated cylindrical bowl has a thickened base. It is cut around the centre with a band of six large crosses, the upper and lower limbs of which come into close approximation. Within the diamond-shaped panel formed between adjacent crosses is a further small cross cut with elongated lower limbs, which bisect the lower limbs of the larger crosses. Where adjacent large crosses meet, and above their centre, is a vertical mitre cut. Below this is a deep, circumferential mitre cut which surmounts a band of twelve facet cuts around the base. The underside of the base is star-cut.
Each glass is marked on the facets above the base with the word ‘WATERFORD’, although this is hard to discern.
These hiball tumblers have been in production for several decades, and are still in production today. At the time of posting, they are available on the Waterford Crystal website for £155 per pair, although they are currently out of stock.
Each glass has a height of approximately 14.3cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 7.5cm and across the base of about 6.2cm.
Each glass has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 375ml.
They have an unwrapped weight of 770g.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are some enclosed bubbles and pieces of frit within the glass, which are manufacturing artefacts. The rim of one glass has a few uneven blemishes in it, which are from where the glass was cut and finished. Again, these are part of the handmade process, but I mention them for the sake of completion.
