This is a pair of good quality cut lead crystal brandy glasses by Royal Brierley, similar to the ‘Braemar’ suite.
Each glass has a capacious round bowl that tapers in to merge with the short, solid stem and then the plain, slightly domed foot. The latter is marked on the edge with the word ‘BRIERLEY’.
The bowl is cut with a band of six large crosses, the upper and lower limbs of which come into close approximation. Above the centre of each cross is a five-pointed fan cut. Within the diamond-shaped panels formed between adjacent large crosses, there is a further small cross with elongated lower limbs that cross over the lower limbs of the large crosses. This creates a band of small crosses around the base. Each of these sits on a horizontal wedge cut.
The addition of this band of horizontal wedge cuts is what makes it differ from the standard ‘Braemar’ pattern.
Each glass bears the original diamond-shaped blue and gold paper label, which reads ‘ROYAL BRIERLEY ENGLISH CRYSTAL’.
In addition, the glasses come in their original red cardboard box, although this is worn in places.
Each glass has a height of approximately 12.3cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 6.2cm and across the foot of about 6.6cm.
Each glass has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 350ml.
They have an unwrapped weight of 610g.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
