This is a pair of high-quality cut lead crystal wine glasses, dating from around 1860 to 1870.
The rounded bowl is cut with a continuous design of deep angulated wedge cuts, arranged to form a circumferential zig-zag pattern. The base of the bowl is cut with a series of ‘petals’, which extend down over the baluster-shaped stem as facets. These have been overcut in the centre with a band of six diamond-shaped facets. The low baluster sits on a short cylindrical portion before meeting the foot at a discoid collar. The foot is plain with a central polished pontil.
Each glass has a height of approximately 12.0cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 6.8cm and across the foot of about 6.6cm.
Each glass has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 135ml.
They have an unwrapped weight of 380g.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is the odd wear and tear scratch to the bowl and foot commensurate with age.
