This is a stunning example of a low tazza in the vibrant ‘Majolica’ style.
The tazza is moulded to give the appearance of a basket containing a ring of large detailed green leaves, within which are three sprigs of pale blue flowers. The basket is glazed in a bright yellow shade. The space between the leaves and the basket is glazed with a deep cobalt blue.
The underside of the dish and the tapering base are glazed in a mottled green and brown glaze.
The stand or foot is also decorated with leaves and the basket weave pattern.
It has a height of approximately 5.0cm, with a diameter across the dish of about 22.0cm and across the base of about 15.6cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 650g.
It is in good condition for its age, although there is one very old chip on the edge of the basket-weave design, and some crazing to the glaze over the body. It has been crudely finished and therefore there are numerous burst glaze bubbles around the edge and some within the design (see pictures). This wear and the flaws do not detract from this piece.
