Large Late 19th Century Plain Milk Glass Flower Vase c.1880

This is a simple but attractive example of a ‘milk glass’ flower vase, maker unknown but probably dating to the latter part of the 19th century.

The vase is made from thin white opaque glass and is of classical form, with a tapering galleried rim and a small collar at the junction with the shoulder. The elongated ovoid body sits on a stepped plinth-like base. The latter is slightly domed in the centre and unmarked.

It has a height of approximately 27.0cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 8.0cm and across the base of about 10.8cm.

It has an unwrapped weight of 460g.

It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are a number of minor irregularities in the surface, in the form of ‘dimples’ and pieces of enclosed frit (see pictures). These are manufacturing artefacts. The rim has also been crudely ground, with a matte finish.
