This is a nice example of a candle holder from the reissued ‘Prism’ range, originally designed by John Luxton for Stuart Crystal.
The piece is broadly spherical in shape, with a thickened base. It is cut around the edge with a band of fine, vertical lines, which extend up towards the rim. Each of these is overcut with a broad, lenticular cut; these alternate in size to give a staggered effect.
The base is marked at the edge with the word ‘STUART’.
In addition, the piece bears the original plastic label, which reads ‘STUART SINCE 1788 LUXTON COLLECTION’.
This piece is from a reissue of the ‘Prism’ range, which was launched in July 2000 under ‘The Luxton Collection’. A copy of the promotional sheets featuring this range can be seen on page 295 of the book ’20th Century British Glass’ by Charles Hajdamach. This shows that it has the pattern number 31513/170.
It has a height of approximately 9.2cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 7.7cm and across the base of about 5.0cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 390g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
