This is a stunning, high-quality stoneware fruit bowl produced by Diana Worthy for Crich Pottery, which was in production from 1975 to 2004.
The bowl has a thickened, rounded lip which overhangs the body. The latter is rounded and sits on a galleried base.
The exterior of the bowl is glazed with a speckled grey-brown shade, with more brown concentrated at the rim. The interior of the bowl is glazed in segments in shades of rust, pale yellow, grey, blue, and green. These have been applied over a pale mauve layer, which is splashed over the rim and can also be seen through the incised stylised floral and tree or cloud motif. This decorating technique is known as ‘sgraffito’.
The underside of the bowl is incised with the intertwined letters ‘CP’ for Crich Pottery.
Diana Worthy (née Diana Woodcock-Beckering) had previously worked as a freelancer for Denby, designing the highly sought-after ‘Trees’ pattern in 1970.
It has a height of approximately 11.5cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 26.3cm and across the base of about 11.3cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 1220g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
