This is an unusual example of an invalid feeding cup produced for the British government by Keeling & Co. Ltd in 1931.
The piece has a cup-shaped body, tapering in towards the discoid base. The top has an almost semi-circular opening, with an undulating edge, opposite the elongated, integral spout. The small looped handle is applied at 90 degrees to this.
The top of the feeding cup is transfer-printed in green with the Royal Cypher for King George V.
The base is transfer printed with the date ‘1931’, the letter ‘W’ within a diamond, and the words ‘KEELING & CO. LTD BURSLEM’.
The ‘W’ within a diamond mark was applied to items commissioned by the Office of Works and was used to distinguish between governmental property and publicly available utilitarian products. More information on this subject can be found here.
It has a maximum height of approximately 9.6cm, with a maximum length of 14.0cm and a diameter across the base of about 6.0cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 260g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
