This is a high-quality cut lead crystal spirit decanter from the ‘Highland’ suite by Edinburgh Crystal.
The decanter has a short, cylindrical body and a rounded shoulder. The latter tapers inwards to meet the cylindrical neck and flattened rim. The neck is cut with eight elongated facets, surmounting two deep wedge cuts around the base. Below this, on the shoulder, is a further eight rounded facet cuts that overlap one another.
The main body is cut with eleven vertical wedge cuts that divide it into panels. Within each panel is a large cross surmounting five rows of small crosses. The thickened base is star cut and marked at the edge with the words ‘EDINBURGH MADE IN SCOTLAND’.
The stopper is of solid discoid form, with a star-cut apex and sixteen leaf-shaped wedge cuts around the edge. It tapers in to form a short neck which is cut with six facets. It then widens out to meet the tapering peg, which has been polished.
It has a height excluding the stopper of approximately 17.0cm and a height including the stopper of 21.5cm. It has a diameter across the rim of 5.8cm and across the base of 11.4cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 1450g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are some wear and tear scratches to the body and base commensurate with age and use.
