This is a classic example of an early piece of Dartington Glass designed by Frank Thrower.
The tankard is made from flint (clear) glass and is approximately cylindrical with a central waisted portion. The handle has been separately applied just below the rim and has a thick lower attachment.
The base is thickened and has a central polished pontil. It is unmarked.
It has a height of approximately 13.3cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 9.8cm and across the base of about 10.2cm.
The tankard has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 650ml. This corresponds to the largest size in this range, which was made to hold one pint (568ml).
It has an unwrapped weight of 730g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are some striations in the base from the manufacturing process.
