This is a classic example of a handmade posy vase from George Fishley Holland at the Dunster Pottery.
The vase has a flattened, flared rim that tapers in to form the short, waisted neck. This then widens out again to create a shoulder above the broadly cylindrical base. The latter has a chamfered edge. The interior and exterior are glazed in a dark, glossy brown shade. There is a hand-painted floral motif in pale orange and yellow on two sides of the body.
The base is unglazed, revealing the underlying terracotta-coloured body. This is impressed off-centre with the word ‘DUNSTER’. This mark was in use from 1959.
It has a height of approximately 9.7cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 6.1cm and across the base of about 5.4cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 190g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
