This is a lovely example of a handled glass cake plate from the ‘Regency Gold’ range, introduced in 1972 by Chance Glass.
The dish has a fluted, gilded rim; the remainder is printed with an intricate, scrolling design reminiscent of ‘Damask’ style fabrics.
This motif was the most expensive design to produce due to the extensive coverage of the pattern.
The plate has been drilled through the centre, and a gold-coloured metal handle has been attached.
The plate bears the original black and gold label, which reads ‘CHANCE GLASS A MEMBER OF THE PILKINGTON GROUP MADE IN ENGLAND’. This label was used by Chance Glass from 1970 to 1981.
In addition, the piece comes in the original cardboard box with a plastic lid. This is quite worn in places, and two corners of the lid have been secured with tape.
It has a maximum height of approximately 13.0cm and a diameter across the rim of about 24.6cm.
It has an unwrapped weight (including the box) of 470g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are a few wear and tear scratches to the underside commensurate with use.
Please note: the handle will be unscrewed from the plate and wrapped separately to minimise the potential for damage during transit.
