This is an attractive novelty character jug in the form of a Harrods doorman, produced by Carlton Ware.
The rim of the jug is formed by the green peaked cap. The handle is attached at the back in the midline, extending from the brim of the cap to the doorman’s shoulders. A few of the facial features are highlighted in black. There is a thin grey wash applied to give the appearance of silvery-white hair. The tie is black.
The interior and the base are white. The latter is impressed with the number ‘4497’ and the words ‘CARLTON WARE ENGLAND’.
It has a height of approximately 11.0cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 220g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is some roughness to the paint in areas which is a manufacturing artefact.
