This is a nice example of a retro flower vase in the ‘Foligno’ pattern by Scheurich Keramik.
The wide rim is moulded with three circumferential bands, which taper in to form the neck. This then widens out to form a broad shoulder. This is decorated with a band of impressed vertical lines.
The body is cylindrical and decorated with three bands of stylised floral motifs which are interspersed with bands of impressed triangles, circles, and vertical lines just above the base.
The interior is glazed in a dark brown shade, which can be seen through the paler beige-coloured glaze at the rim and shoulder. This upper section has a speckled effect and a matte finish. The foliate designs on the body are glazed in a glossy tan shade, while the remaining space between is glazed in speckled beige, which has a matte finish. There are also two circumferential lines in glossy dripped brown glaze around the centre.
The underside of the base is glazed in a glossy dark brown and is moulded with the words ‘W. GERMANY’ and the number ‘289-27’.
It has a height of approximately 26.9cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 10.2cm and across the base of about 12.2cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 1480g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks. There is a small raised bump at the rim which shows a white inclusion within the ceramic body. This is a manufacturing flaw and is common in these mass-produced pieces.
