This is a high-quality cut lead crystal small brandy balloon from the ‘Salisbury’ suite, introduced by Stuart Crystal in 1964.
The balloon-shaped bowl is cut with a band of leaf-shaped wedge cuts around the centre. Between adjacent cuts is an elongated three-limbed fan cut. There is a broad discoid attachment at the junction of the bowl and the short stem.
The foot is plain and marked in the centre with the words ‘STUART ENGLAND’. This particular mark was in use from 1950.
This cutting was also used on the ‘Lichfield’ suite, which was introduced in 1986. It was the updated version of this earlier suite, the main difference being that the ‘Lichfield’ suite glasses tend to be bigger.
It has a height of approximately 12.1cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 5.9cm and across the foot of about 6.5cm.
It has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 290ml.
It has an unwrapped weight of 160g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
