This is a highly attractive set of six silver coffee spoons in their original case, produced by William Suckling Ltd and assayed at Birmingham in 1936.
Each spoon has a simple, rounded bowl and a fine, cylindrical shaft. There is a black, stylised coffee bean finial, which I believe is made from Bakelite.
The reverse of the handle bears the manufacturer’s mark ‘S Ld’, which was used by William Suckling Ltd. This is followed by the anchor mark for Birmingham Assay Office, the sterling silver lion passant mark, and the date letter ‘M’ for 1936.
The spoons come in their original case, which is black with gold-coloured fittings. The interior is lined with off-white satin and black velvet.
The case measures 14.5cm by 12.9cm. Each spoon measures approximately 9.5cm.
Each spoon has a weight of about 6.4g. They have a combined weight (including the case) of 190g.
They are in excellent condition, with only minor use. The case is also in good condition, with one small mark on the interior satin (see pictures).
