Colclough ‘Braganza’ Design Bone China Milk Jug and Sugar Bowl No. 8454

This is a high-quality bone china milk jug and sugar bowl set from the ‘Braganza’ suite by Colclough.

The milk jug is of classic form, with an undulating rim that is pulled out to form the spout. The rim is gilded. The body is rounded and tapers in towards the plinth-like foot. The latter is gilded. There are two panels of transfer-printed stylised floral motifs in various shades of blue on either side of the handle. The handle is large and sits above the rim. It is gilded along the edges to accentuate the ornate shape.

The sugar bowl is rounded with a slightly everted gilded rim. The body sits on a plinth-like foot, the edge of which is also gilded. Below the rim, there are three panels of transfer-printed stylised floral motifs in various shades of blue.

The underside of each piece is plain and marked in the centre with a black crown logo surmounting the words ‘COLCLOUGH BONE CHINA MADE IN ENGLAND’.

The milk jug has a maximum height of approximately 9.3cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 8.4cm and a diameter across the foot of about 5.6cm.

The sugar bowl has a height of approximately 6.8cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 10.9cm and a diameter across the foot of about 5.9cm.

They have an unwrapped weight of 340g.

They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is some minor wear to the gilding commensurate with age.
