This is a handsome example of a handmade studio pottery jug in a classic rustic style.
The jug has a slightly waisted body, with a broad rim and a pulled spout. The handle has been applied just below the rim and reattached above the base. From the rim to the lower spout attachment the body is vertically washed in a brown glaze which has then been vertically scratched through to the underlying body in an abstract manner. This is incised deeper in some places than others. The lower portion of the body and the interior are finished in a clear glaze.
The base is unglazed and impressed towards the edge with a stylised ‘V’ shaped mark within a square. I have not been able to identify this mark as yet.
It has a height of approximately 14.5cm, with a width across the rim of 10.3cm and across the base of about 9.5cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 730g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
