This is a high-quality lead crystal large wine glass from the ‘Bruce’ suite produced by Royal Brierley.
The bucket-shaped bowl is cut in its lower half with a lattice formed from two rows of interlocking crosses. This lattice is surmounted by a circumferential mitre cut topped with five equidistantly positioned five-limbed fan cuts.
The base of the bowl is thickened and sits on a short, baluster-shaped stem. The foot is plain and marked at the edge with the word ‘BRIERLEY’.
This glass is seen in the 1986 Royal Brierley catalogue listed as a ‘large wine’ standing at 4 ¾” tall.
It has a height of approximately 12.5cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 7.4cm and across the foot of about 6.0cm.
It has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 170ml.
It has an unwrapped weight of 240g.
It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is a ring of wear around the underside edge of the foot commensurate with use.
