This is a striking example of a ceramic flower vase from the ‘Calypso’ range, designed by the Queensberry Hunt Partnership for Poole Pottery.
The piece is described as an ‘Athens Vase’, with an everted rim, a short neck, and a baluster-shaped body. The whole is glazed in a baby blue shade, known as ‘pale blue’ and finished with an iridescent finish described as ‘lustre’ in the Poole Pottery catalogue.
The underside is marked in black with the stylised ‘grotesque’ dolphin logo and the words ‘POOLE ENGLAND’. This mark was in use from 1974.
It has a height of approximately 20.4cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 7.5cm and across the base of about 6.8cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 640g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is a grey patch on the glaze, which looks like a blemish caused during firing.
