This is a classic example of a coffee pot from the sought-after ‘Black Pebble’ range, designed by Robert Jefferson for Poole Pottery in 1959.
The pot has a broad, circular top, tapering in towards the base. The spout is short and drawn out from the body and shoulder. The handle is also joined at the shoulder, curving up and then down towards the base of the body. The latter is marked on the underside with a white oval containing the words ‘POOLE ENGLAND’ with the classic dolphin motif, although this is worn in places.
The lid is domed and printed with the ‘Black Pebble’ motif. This is surmounted by a discoid white knop. There is also a small hole in the lid to allow steam to escape.
It has a maximum height (including the lid) of 15.6cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 440g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is some wear to the mark as this was applied over the glaze and has washed off slightly during use.
