This is a nice example of a bone china side plate set in a classic pattern by Royal Vale, which was a trade name used by Colclough China Ltd.
The side plate has a scalloped gilded rim. It is decorated with a transfer-printed gilded floral motif, more commonly referred to as ‘Gold Chintz’.
It is marked with the crown motif above the words ‘BONE CHINA ROYAL VALE MADE IN ENGLAND A PRODUCT OF RIDGEWAY POTTERIES LTD’. This mark was in use in the 1960s when Colclough and other potteries were part of the Ridgeway Potteries Ltd group.
It has a diameter across the rim of about 16.0cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 130g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there may be some very minor wear to the gilding in places.
