This is a pair of high-quality lead crystal claret glasses from the ‘Stratford’ suite by Stuart Crystal.
The bowls are plain and tapering. About halfway down the bowl, there is a ‘step’ inwards and the remainder is formed from five rings. The stem is plain and straight and bulges slightly as it meets the plain foot. The latter is unmarked.
Each glass has a height of approximately 9.3cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 6.5cm and across the foot of about 5.2cm. There may be minor discrepancies in the dimensions due to the handmade nature of the glasses.
Each glass has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 90ml.
They have an unwrapped weight of 190g.
Although these glasses were branded as ‘claret’ in the 1950s, they may be more appropriate to use as a small cocktail or spirit glass by today’s standards.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although they have the odd enclosed bubble from the manufacturing process.
