This is a pair of highly stylish mid-century vases, designed especially for the Norfolk Pottery Company by Alan Compton.
They are of simple bottle form, with an undulating rim. The body is decorated with an impressed oval design around the shoulder and petal-shaped impressions above the base.
The exterior is glazed in a dusky salmon pink which is speckled. The interior is glazed in a pale yellow-green.
The base is marked with a transfer print featuring a crown and the words ‘AN ALAN COMPTON CREATION ROYAL NORFOLK POTTERY MADE IN ENGLAND’. There is also an impressed number ‘2’ and the remains of an original paper label. The Norfolk Pottery Co. Ltd was founded in 1958 and was based at Norfolk Street, Shelton, Staffordshire.
Each vase has a height of approximately 25.5cm, a maximum width across the rim of about 5.0cm and across the base of 10.4cm.
They have an unwrapped weight of 1480g.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
