This is a pair of good-quality lead crystal rummers, maker unknown but dating to around 1880.
Each rummer has a rounded, cup-shaped bowl. The bowl is decorated below the rim with a moulded circumferential mitre, which borders two rows of twelve protruding panels. Between these rows, they are divided in a way to give the appearance of cutting, which means there is a row of lenticular notches around the centre.
The base of the bowl is moulded with six petals that have a double-lobed appearance, which looks like a flower in the base of each bowl. These facets extend down onto the short, waisted stem. This flares out and sits on a thickened discoid portion that connects it to the plain, flat foot. The latter is polished on the underside but the remains of the three-part mould lines are visible on the upper surface of each foot.
Each glass has a height of approximately 13.5cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 9.3cm and across the foot of about 8.9cm.
Each glass has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 300ml.
They have an unwrapped weight of 1080g.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are some scratches and scuffs to the bowls commensurate with age and use. There are also some enclosed pieces of frit within the glass, which are manufacturing artefacts.
