This is an unusual example of a bud vase or solifleur produced by Mtarfa Glass of Malta, and probably dating to the early 1980s.
It has an upper hollow blown globular portion, which is pulled in at the base to form four lobes. These merge with the solid cylindrical base. There is a small central hole at the top. The piece is made from pale blue glass, with an abstract pattern of brown, blue, and yellow streaks.
The piece comes with the original paper labels. One is on the side of the base and reads ‘MTARFA GLASS’ and the other on the underneath of the base, which is only partly discernible, but has the words ‘HANDMADE IN MALTA’.
It has a height of approximately 10.3cm, and a diameter across the base of about 4.2cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 390g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
