This is a charming, rustic example of a stoneware condiment jar produced by the Moira Pottery Co. Ltd.
The jar has a rounded rim above a short, galleried neck. There is an angular shoulder that widens out to meet the short, cylindrical body. It is glazed in a pale beige stoneware colour.
On one side, it is printed in black with the words ‘HOME MADE RELISH’.
The base is unglazed and marked off-centre with the words ‘HANDMADE MOIRA MADE IN ENGLAND ENGLISH STONEWARE’.
It has the original cork bung at fits nicely into the lid of the jar. This is worn on the top but still creates a reasonable seal.
It has a height (to the rim) of approximately 12.7cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 8.8cm and across the base of about 12.1cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 1040g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks. There are a couple of glaze misses on the body and rim, which are manufacturing artefacts.
