This is a handsome and unusual example of a lead crystal rummer in the form of a large firing glass, probably dating to between 1750 and 1770.
The rummer has a broad, trumpet-shaped bowl which narrows in as it approaches the base. It merges with the solid stem and sits on a thick, ‘firing’ style foot. The latter has a central rough pontil mark.
The glass has a height of approximately 13.1cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 9.4cm and across the foot of about 8.6cm. The foot is approximately 1.0cm thick.
It has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 250ml.
It has an unwrapped weight of 460g.
It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are numerous faint scratches to the bowl and foot commensurate with age and use. There are also some enclosed bubbles (see pictures) which are manufacturing artefacts.
