This is a striking example of a late-19th-century wine glass.
The capacious bowl is rounded and sits on a cylindrical stem and plain, flat foot. The latter bears the remains of a central tool mark. The piece is made from soda glass.
The bowl has been acid-etched with an intricate motif consisting of a stylised ‘Fleur de Lys’ border just below the rim. This surmounts a complex scrolling and hatched motif, with floral and foliate swags between these.
It has a height of approximately 14.5cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 7.6cm and across the foot of about 7.2cm.
It has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 275ml.
It has an unwrapped weight of 150g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are numerous enclosed bubbles and striations within the glass which are from the manufacturing process.
