This is a stunning example of a decorative glass footed bowl, maker unknown but dating to the third quarter of the 19th century.
The cranberry glass rim is of undulating form, with eight large scallops around the edge. Below this, the glass transitions to clear crystal and has a textured, crackled appearance on the exterior, although it can be felt more faintly on the interior. This is known as ‘Crackle Glass‘.
The base of the bowl is flat and sits on a short, cylindrical stem and a bulbous collar at the junction with the foot. The latter is plain with a central rough pontil.
From the base of the bowl downwards, on the exterior, to the top surface of the foot, is a pale, frosted or opaque finish, although this is not entirely consistently applied.
It has a maximum height of approximately 9.9cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 20.5cm and across the foot of about 9.8cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 380g.
It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are a few minor scratches to the interior commensurate with use.
