This is a highly attractive example of a cologne or perfume bottle, probably British in origin and dating to around 1880.
The clear glass body is approximately conical, pulling up at the shoulder into a short cylindrical neck, which flares out to a flattened rim. The body is decorated with a fine trail in turquoise blue glass, which has been machine-threaded.
The base is polished in the centre and is engraved with the number ‘22’.
The clear glass stopper is of faceted ball form. It has the same number ‘22’ engraved on the underside of the peg.
It has a maximum height (including the stopper) of 24.0cm and a height to the rim of 19.6cm. It has a diameter across the rim of about 4.5cm and across the base of about 8.8cm.
It has a liquid capacity (to the shoulder) of 500ml.
It has an unwrapped weight of 420g.
It is in good condition, considering its age. There is a small chip at the tip of one of the cut facets on the ball stopper (see pictures). In addition, there are a few areas of loss to the threading, some of which can be seen close up in the pictures. There are also some faint marks on the base of the interior, which are commensurate with use. Although this wear is relatively minor, it is reflected in the price.
