This is a stunning and unusual example of a Vasart glass vase, produced in Scotland in the mid-20th century.
The vase is of classic baluster form, with an everted rim, short neck and tapering body. The base is domed in the centre and bears a broad button-like pontil which has been ground flat.
The upper part of the vase is made from pink glass, although this is darker than the lower portion due to the fact it is flecked with red and some dark inclusions. Below the shoulder, the vase has a striking whorl motif, which is multicoloured and interspersed with indistinct millefiori canes and a few large air bubbles. It is slightly different all the way around, which can be seen in the pictures. The lower portion is pale pink.
The glass contains thousands of tiny bubbles, which give it an almost glittering quality in some lights.
It has a height of approximately 24.3cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 11.9cm and across the base of about 10.6cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 1320g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although as previously mentioned there are a number of large bubbles contained around the whorl section. There is also a small piece of frit within the external flint glass layer towards the base.
