This is a nice example of a lead crystal hollow candleholder, designed by Frank Thrower in 1971 for Dartington Glass.
The piece is simple yet elegant, with a broad, cylindrical midsection that widens to form a galleried rim. The foot is plain and unmarked.
It bears the original red Dartington label that reads ‘DARTINGTON ENGLAND’.
The red label was introduced in 1968 to denote ‘seconds’ quality and was replaced by a black label in 1978. The label was originally square, before changing to a circular one.
It has a height of approximately 17.7cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 8.7cm and across the foot of about 8.8cm.
This is the medium-height product from the FT141 range and is called ‘Jumbo’. It is broader than the other two variations.
It has an unwrapped weight of 480g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
