This is a simple yet elegant candleholder, designed by Frank Thrower in 1985 for Dartington Crystal.
The candlelamp comes in two pieces. There is a globular ‘shade’ that tapers in at the top and the bottom to form a galleried rim. This is moulded with the ‘ripple’ effect. The lower ‘stand’ is of short cylindrical form, merging imperceptibly with the plain, solid stem. The foot is broad and plain, and marked in the centre with the Dartington ‘D’ logo.
In addition, each piece bears the original Dartington gold sticker, which reads ‘DARTINGTON ENGLAND’. The gold sticker denotes ‘first’ quality.
It has a maximum height of approximately 21.4cm and a diameter across the upper aperture of the shade of about 7.6cm. The base has a diameter across the rim of 8.6cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 600g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
