This is a striking, high-quality lead crystal flower vase from the ‘Florence’ range produced by Dartington Crystal in the mid-1990s.
The vase has a broad, conical rim which narrows to meet the flattened shoulder. This widens out to meet the urn-shaped body, which tapers in towards the thickened base. The latter is marked on the edge with the Dartington ‘D’ logo.
The body is vertically ribbed, in an effect referred to in the catalogues as ‘Optic’.
In addition, the vase bears the original round sticker, which reads ‘DARTINGTON ENGLAND’ encircling a gold letter ‘D’.
It has a height of approximately 22.8cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 15.1cm and across the base of about 6.5cm.
This vase can be seen in the 1995 Dartington catalogue with pattern number VA669/O. It is the largest size of the range of three vases.
It has an unwrapped weight of 1240g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are some scratches to the body and base commensurate with age and use.
