This is a charming example of a decorative glass flower vase produced by Caithness Glass in 1980.
The vase is of elongated form, widening out towards the rounded, thickened base. It is made from an inner purple coloured glass layer (more commonly referred to as ‘Heather’), which is encased in a thick outer layer of clear (flint) glass. This outer layer has been sandblasted with a stylised nightingale perched on a branch.
The base is slightly concave on the underside and is engraved with the words ‘NIGHTINGALE’ and ‘S.R CG 80’.
This vase has the shape number 4096.
It has a height of approximately 23.0cm and a diameter across the rim of about 6.4cm and across the base of about 5.3cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 740g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks. There is a small patch to the right of the design that appears frosted. This is where the sand blasting went beyond the template for the design – it is a manufacturing artefact.
