This is a simple but elegant high-quality cut lead crystal spirit decanter produced for S. Dornberger by Atlantis Crystal of Portugal.
The thick, galleried rim sits on a short, cylindrical neck. This is moulded with eight facets that extend down onto the flattened shoulder as petals.
The body is oval in section, with a thickened star-cut base. The body is cut below the shoulder and above the base with a deep, circumferential mitre cut, which is over-cut with two pairs of vertical cuts to form four panels. The two panels on the short ends of the oval contain a lattice of cross cuts.
The large panel on the front of the decanter is uncut, which is ideal for use as an engraving blank. The panel on the reverse is cut with a large cross formed from deep curved mitre cuts that run from opposite corners of the panel. There is a large fan motif above the centre of this and a smaller one below. On either side of the centre are lattices of smaller cross-cuts.
The stopper is of solid, flattened oval form and is moulded with eight petals on the underside to echo the design on the decanter shoulder.
It bears the original gold label, which reads ‘HAND MADE EXCLUSIVELY FOR SD BY ATLANTIS OF PORTUGAL FULL LEAD CRYSTAL’.
It has a height (excluding the stopper) of approximately 18.7cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 5.6cm and a width across the base of about 11.2cm by 8.3cm. It has a maximum height (including the stopper) of about 22.0cm.
The blank front panel measures 8.0cm by 10.8cm.
It has a liquid capacity (just below the shoulder) of 500ml.
It has an unwrapped weight of 1610g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
