This is a stunning example of an Art Deco glass flower vase produced by Nazeing Glass of Broxbourne, Hertfordshire, during the 1930s.
The vase is of tapering form, with a wide, everted rim that has been turned over. The body is broadly cylindrical and sits on a thickened base. The latter has a central polished pontil with a matte finish.
The piece has been made in the classic green shade, with a cloudy, bubbled effect, and encased in clear glass.
According to plate IV of the 1930s Nazeing catalogue, ‘the turned over top is formed to give additional strength’. This plate can be seen on page 78 of the book ‘A Celebration of Nazeing Glass Works 1928-2003’ by Geoffrey C. Timberlake. It also refers to this piece as a ‘Funnel Vase’ with sales order number ’37/55′, which was made in sizes 6 ½”, 8″, 10″ and 12″. This is the 8″ version. The product number shown with the working drawings is ’78/1′.
The vase has a height of approximately 20.0cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 16.3cm and across the base of about 8.8cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 760g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
